Plastic biodegradable products are one of the important contents of the current research in the field of polymer materials. The quality of their degradation properties directly affects the cultivability, safety, and crop growth of the soil. Therefore, various industries are actively promoting the application of biodegradable plastics to replace non-degradable plastics. Tableware made of biodegradable plastics (or compostable degradable plastics) has novel materials and environmental protection concepts. It is used by a wide range of groups, from infants to the elderly. In addition, the product method involves personal safety and is more popular among society and consumers' concerns. As a professional biodegradable tableware manufacturer in China, Soton knows a lot about biodegradable plates and cutlery.
1. The difference between biodegradable plastics and compostable degradable plastic ecological products
(1) Biodegradable plastics
Plastic biodegradable products refer to the degradation caused by the microorganisms existing in nature under natural conditions such as soil/sand soil, or under specific conditions such as composting, anaerobic digestion, and aqueous culture solution, and completely degraded into carbon dioxide. (CO2), methane (CH4), water (H2O), and mineralized inorganic salts of the elements and new biomass plastics. According to technical requirements, the biodegradation rate of biodegradable (degradable) plastics must be greater than 60%.
(2) Compostable and degradable plastics
Compostable degradable plastics can be degraded and disintegrated due to the biological reaction process under compostable conditions and completely decomposed into carbon dioxide, water and mineralized inorganic salts of the elements contained in them, and new biomass and the compost formed The heavy metal content, toxicity test, residual debris, etc. should meet the relevant standards. The biodegradation rate of biodegradable (degraded) plastics must also be greater than 60%.
It can be seen from the definition that the degradation principles of the above two ecological product materials are the same, mainly through the degradation of plastics caused by the action of microorganisms, and the materials are decomposed into small molecular substances and new biomass. The above two materials are hereinafter referred to simply as "biodegradable plastics".
2. The safety of using biodegradable plastic tableware ecological products
(1) Heat resistance
Through the microwave oven test, it was found that when the microwave oven power reached 500W and heated for 3 minutes, the tableware products made of pure polylactic acid, polylactic acid + starch (bamboo powder), polylactic acid + bamboo powder, and other materials all melted; polypropylene + starch tableware Blistering, deformed condition. Under the conditions of 300W and 3min, when the heating is completed, the tableware is deformed and softened. Under the conditions of 200W and 3min, when the heating is completed, the tableware is slightly softened and the deformation is not obvious.
(2) Mobility
Under the conditions of 50 ℃ or 70 ℃, 4% acetic acid, soaking for 24 hours, the product has obvious precipitation, and the precipitation increases with the increase of soaking times. The total migration amount exceeded the national food safety standard limit. The product of melamine + biomass raw material will precipitate melamine and formaldehyde under certain conditions.
Judging from the above heat resistance and migration, biodegradable plastic products containing biomass materials must be marked on the product with information such as whether it can be used in microwave ovens, product use temperature, use conditions, and use period to guide consumers, to ensure the safety of use.
